A Gift Set With Individual Character
A personalised gift set was required for a wedding, with each utensil in the set carrying its own unique text and imagery rather than a single repeated design. The brief called for a warm, personal tone across the set while keeping a consistent style and finish, so the pieces read as a matching collection rather than a collection of unrelated items.
The Challenge
Consistent Style Across Individual Designs
Each utensil needed unique wording and small illustrative elements, which meant every design had to be laid out and tested individually, rather than simply repeating one engraving file across multiple pieces. Maintaining a consistent typographic style, engraving depth, and placement across each unique design was necessary so the set felt cohesive despite every piece being different. Bamboo also required careful attention to engraving settings, since natural grain and colour variation can affect how cleanly fine script detail renders.
The Process
Individual Design, Batch Production
Each utensil’s text and imagery was laid out individually, with font choice and placement adjusted to suit the shape and available surface of each piece. Engraving settings were tested on a sample piece of the same bamboo stock to confirm clarity and consistent contrast before production. Every item in the set was then engraved and inspected individually to confirm consistent quality across the full set.
Outcome
The finished set provided a cohesive, personalised gift with each piece carrying its own individual character. The engraving held clean, legible detail even on the smaller script elements, and the natural bamboo grain complemented the warm tone of the engraving rather than competing with it.
